Visuality in Music Performance

Visuality for musicians

Space and composition, materiality of performance and costume (de)construction, body awareness, use of video, color, presence, and the politics of performance.

This course invites musicians to explore the often-overlooked visual and embodied dimensions of musical performance. Drawing from Larysa Bauge’s unique experience as an orchestra conductor and performance artist, musicians closely engage with:
spatial composition,
materiality of performance and costume (de)construction,
body awareness and presence,
use of video and color,
as well as the politics of performance.

Through practical exercises and critical reflection, musicians learn to expand their expressive range beyond sound alone, creating performances that are as visually compelling as they are sonically powerful.
